To search for an individual in the obituary index, please type in the individual's surname (last name). The index is arranged in alphabetical order by Last Name, First Name, and Middle Name or Initial. Names were copied exactly as written in the newspaper so researchers should check all possible spellings. Decedents without surnames are listed at the beginning of the alphabet. Nuns and priests were indexed under their religious names with Sister and Father as titles; entries were also made for their birth names whenever those were given.

Nuns are indexed by their religious names as well as by their birth names. If the surname (birth name) of the nun is not known, please type SR in the last name search field. This will provide the researcher with a list of all nuns in that particular index.

Men in religious orders who are designated as brothers may also be searched in the index by their religious names as well as their birth names. If the surname (birth name) of the brother is not known, please type BRO in the last name search field. This will provide the researcher with a list of all brothers in that particular index.

Obituaries of unidentifed persons appeared in the newspaper over the years. To call up a list of all unidentified adults, children and infants, please type the symbol * in the last name search field.

Title. Professional, religious, or other titles, such as Rev., Dr., and Mrs. are included here to help identify individuals more fully. When the generational status of Jr. (Junior) or Sr. (Senior) is listed with the name, it is usually included as a "Title" in the Obituary Index; however, if another title is also listed with the same name, Jr. or Sr. will be listed after the individual's first name in the index.

Age. The decedents age at death is listed here.

Date. This represents the date of the newspaper, not necessarily the date of death. Only the first notice of a death was indexed unless a different version of the name was given on a succeeding day. Researchers should remember to check additional newspapers. Dates are in the format: Year/Month/Day. For example, the date 23/06/22 is June 22, 1923.

Page. Page number of the newspaper on which the obituary appeared.

Paper. The newspaper in which the obituary appeared.
